China is getting ready to open the world’s tallest bridge in June, a huge suspension bridge that will stand high above one of the country’s most roughed landscapes.

Called the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, this impressive structure is located in Guizhou, a mountainous province in southwest China. Officials have announced that the bridge is expected to be open for traffic by June 30, 2025.

This record-breaking structure will become the tallest bridge in the world, standing an incredible 2,051 feet above the river below. To put that into perspective, it’s 947 feet taller than the current titleholder, the Millau Viaduct in France.

Guizhou province, known for its rough and mountainous terrain, is home to the dramatic Huajiang Grand Canyon, often referred to as the “earth crack.” The bridge spans this breathtaking canyon, connecting areas that were once difficult to traverse. With its completion, travel time across the canyon will be reduced from two hours to just one minute a game-changer for the region.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is a steel truss suspension bridge with a total length of 9,482 feet. Construction began on January 18, 2022, and is expected to be completed by June 30, 2025. The bridge’s steel trusses weigh a staggering 22,000 tons equivalent to the weight of three Eiffel Towers.

According to Zhang Shenglin, chief engineer of Guizhou Highway Group, the project is 95% complete and on track to open in the second half of 2025.

“This super project that spans the ‘earth crack’ will be the world’s first in both directions. It will become another landmark project to demonstrate China’s infrastructure strength,” Zhang said.

the bridge isn’t just about breaking a record ,once in operation, it will be easier than ever for cars and trucks to traverse the area. According to state media, it will reduce travel time over the Huajiang Grand Canyon from two hours to just one minute.

By making travel faster and more efficient, the bridge is expected to boost regional development, improve connectivity, and open up new opportunities for trade and tourism.

Guizhou already boasts nearly half of the world’s top 100 tallest bridges, and the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge will further cement the province’s reputation as a hub for groundbreaking engineering.

As the world watches, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge stands as a symbol of China’s ambition and innovation. It’s not just a bridge, it’s a testament to what’s possible when vision meets determination. Once open, it will not only connect communities but also inspire the world with its sheer scale and ingenuity.
