Lexus, the revered Japanese luxury automaker, is making deeper inroads into the electric vehicle (EV) market with a refreshed take on its all-electric RZ model. Originally introduced in 2023 as an all-wheel-drive-only option, the RZ has gradually evolved, with a front-wheel-drive variant added later that offered more driving range. Now, looking toward 2026, Lexus is giving the RZ a mid-cycle update—one that marks a bold stride forward in both performance and sophistication.

At the heart of this new chapter is the top-tier F Sport trim. This version is powered by Lexus’ Direct4 dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering a robust 408 horsepower.

The F Sport doesn’t just impress with raw power—it also introduces simulated gear shifts, mimicking an eight-speed range of artificial gears that adds a dynamic, driver-focused experience often absent in EVs. Riding on lightweight 20-inch wheels and dressed in a sleek two-tone paint job—now including a striking new metallic grey—the F Sport is a statement of both performance and style.

But Lexus didn’t stop at aesthetics or power. The entire RZ lineup benefits from a host of technical improvements that bring better efficiency and real-world usability. A newly engineered 77 kWh battery pack, with advanced chemistry, increases range and power delivery. Enhancements to the Lexus e-axle setup further boost overall performance.

To better manage heat—an essential factor in maintaining battery health and performance—a new water-cooling system has been integrated, ensuring stable temperatures for both the battery and electric motors. Thanks to these upgrades, drivers can now expect an increase in range by as much as 100 kilometers (or over 60 miles), depending on the specific configuration.

Speaking of configurations, the updated RZ offers three distinct options to cater to different driving needs. The RZ 350e comes with front-wheel drive and delivers 224 horsepower, ideal for drivers focused on efficiency and daily usability. Stepping up, the RZ 500e offers all-wheel drive and a robust 380 horsepower for those who seek more punch. At the top of the line, the RZ 550e F Sport commands attention with its 408-horsepower output and sport-oriented upgrades.

Lexus has also increased the towing capacity of its two all-wheel-drive variants. These now offer the ability to tow up to 3,300 pounds—double the capacity of the previous generation. Additionally, the introduction of a new 22 kW onboard charger means faster charging times, making the EV ownership experience even more convenient.

Comfort has not been overlooked either. The cabin of the new RZ is quieter and more refined, with reduced noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels. Extra sound insulation beneath the rear seats and the tonneau cover ensures a more serene ride, even on rougher roads. Enhanced battery temperature management also means better performance in extreme weather conditions, be it the heat of West African cities or the chill of European winters.

The updated Lexus RZ is set to make its debut in Europe first, with the timeline for its U.S. launch yet to be confirmed. As the EV market continues to mature, this refreshed RZ is a strong indication that Lexus is not just participating in the electric era—it’s shaping it.
