The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has launched the One Million Coders program to help Ghanaian youth unlock their digital potential. This initiative aims to position Ghana as a leading AI destination in Africa, according to Mr. Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology & Innovation.
Mr. George describes the program as a flagship initiative designed to empower Ghanaians with future-ready skills. The opportunity is open to students, professionals, and individuals who are simply curious and eager to learn, paving the way for a brighter future.
Mr. George asserts that the program will build “the critical human capital for the current reality of technology.”
Beyond coding, the initiative also offers courses in data privacy, data forensics, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and AI engineering. These programs will be conducted under the research and development wing of the ministry, the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.
The ministry aims to reach one million learners across the country within the next four years. As part of its approach, it plans to integrate the program into university curricula, making these courses a requirement for graduation.
Additionally, physical training centers are being established in various regions, with some already operational in Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, and Bolgatanga. The program is scheduled to launch across these locations on April 16.
